About Sean
Sean grew up in Sandyford, South Dublin, and read economics at UCD before drifting into the iGaming industry on a graduate scheme at a Maltese-licensed operator in 2018. Three of those eight years were spent inside compliance, working on KYC tooling, dispute resolution, and the operator's player-protection playbook — the kind of work that gives you a healthy disrespect for casinos that hide behind their terms.
He moved across to consumer-facing editorial in 2022 and joined Ireland Roots as Lead Casino Reviewer in early 2024. The role suits him: he reviews casinos the way he wishes operators were reviewed when he sat on the other side of the desk, which means real deposits, real withdrawals, and real complaints when something doesn't work.
Sean's perspective is uniquely useful because he's seen the gambling industry from inside the regulatory tent and now reviews it from outside. He understands what a casino is legally allowed to do, what it usually does anyway, and what an Irish player can realistically expect when something goes sideways. The columns he writes for Ireland Roots try to bridge the gap between the casino-marketing version of a bonus offer and what that bonus is actually worth after you've cleared the wagering.
Outside of work he coaches a U-13 GAA team in Stepaside and runs the Dublin Marathon every October. His coffee opinions are stronger than they should be (Bell Lane in Kilbeggan, ordered black). The one casino he stopped reviewing after a payout dispute went to written complaint stage: we'll tell you in person.

Sean's casino reviews follow a four-stage test run from a Dublin residential IP: sign-up + KYC, a real EUR deposit via Revolut and a follow-up via Irish Visa debit, gameplay (including playing through any welcome bonus), and the round-trip withdrawal. Scores are weighted: withdrawal speed 25%, bonus fairness 20%, game library 15%, mobile UX 15%, customer support 15%, licensing & player protection 10%. He does not review casinos he has not personally deposited at.
