James Horan, Ballintubber GAA, County Mayo
James Horan is a former Gaelic footballer and former manager of the Mayo senior football team in Ireland. Born in Ballintubber, County Mayo, Horan enjoyed a successful playing career as a forward. He represented Mayo at both the underage and senior levels and was an integral part of the team during the 1990s and early 2000s. Horan won numerous titles with his club, Ballintubber, and the Mayo senior team, including the Connacht Senior Football Championship.
After retiring as a player, Horan turned his focus to coaching and management. In 2010, he was appointed as the manager of the Mayo senior football team. During his first stint as manager from 2010 to 2014, he guided Mayo to four consecutive Connacht Senior Football Championships and two All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final appearances in 2012 and 2013.
James Horan's coaching style has been praised for its focus on player development, skill improvement, and tactical innovation. He has been instrumental in helping several talented Mayo players reach their full potential on the field.
Horan stepped down as manager in 2014 but returned to the position in 2018. Since his return, Mayo has continued to perform well, winning another Connacht Senior Football Championship in 2019 and reaching the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final in 2020. He stepped down as manager again in 2022.
